Storing Things in the Garage and ways to utilize efficient storage Organization
Garages tend to get dumped in, and stuff just accumulates in them. In climates where people don't have
basements, garages have to serve as combination basement/garage storage areas, and you really can get an
accumulation of jumbled-up "junque." ("Junque" is plain old junk you don't admit to being junk.)
If you're handy, you can use up all that air space in the top half of your garage by building storage
shelves on side and back walls. If you're not, peg boards and ready-made shelving are for you.
Save floor space by hanging garden tools, sports gear, bikes (on special
heavy-duty hooks for that purpose), or anything else that will hang up.
If you're not afraid that your family will overload them, you can install deep
shelves in the back end of the garage so that your car hood will be under them.
Lay a platform or shelving across ceiling joists in the garage, on which to
store seldom used or seasonal items, such as storm windows and window
screens.
Take a tip from your city's parking lots. Paint "parking area" lines on the
garage floor to designate spaces for bikes, the lawn mower, or other large
objects, so that these "targets" have their own spaces and you'll be less likely
to hit them with the car when you're pulling into the garage. (Isn't it annoying
to have to get out of the car to move a bike or lawn mower a couple of inches
so that you can drive in? Especially if you've had a bad day!)
Take time to relax and to enjoy the people in your life. You only get one chance at savoring each day.
Once the day is over, it's over. Don't miss opportunities!
I get a lot of letters from women who feel guilty about not having homes as spotless as their mothers had.
I tell them that nobody ever died from a little bit of dust. Most of us just don't have the same life-styles
our mothers had, and we don't have the time to keep house as they did.
I've never heard a eulogy in which the person was praised for having a perfectly clean house, car, office,
whatever. People are remembered for a sense of humor, kindness to others, community service, and other
achievements that affect the well-being of others.
